About

Hi! I’m Casey.

I’m passionate about working at the intersection of media and technology.

Today I’m a Content Designer at Instagram focusing on new messaging experiences. I also lead research studies and specialize in content research.

Previously I was a Content Designer/Content Strategist at Facebook where I got to help shape Facebook’s voice and design video experiences on Facebook.

Before that I worked as a journalist for years and this portfolio is a collection of my work.

I was a Video Producer at CNN Politics in Washington, D.C. where I shot and edited original videos and wrote stories. I also assisted the Digital Production team with creating social elements for videos across our flagship accounts.

At The Washington Post I reported/shot/edited original pieces like this one, produced segments like this one, and created social videos like this one. I was also on the web team that was responsible for promoting and licensing videos and running our social media operations. And I was the producer for “John Kelly’s Washington” column videos.

Before that I was a Kaiser Permanente Health Policy Journalism Fellow and published a web series, “Distance to Cure,” on health technology’s impact on Native American communities. I was also a Kaiser Media Intern working as a Health Reporter at The Plain Dealer in Cleveland.

At the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism (where I focused in Multimedia and Television), I was a Multimedia Graduate Student Researcher and a co-author of the Mobile Reporting Field Guide (download our iBook for free).

I was a part of the Online News Association’s Google-sponsored Student Newsroom and a Facebook Content Strategy Fellow.

I’ve had experience reporting on a variety of topics (health, politics, breaking news, and arts & culture) at the  local, state, and national level for regional newspapers (Contra Costa Times, The Bay Citizen, Oakland North), community radio (KCSB 91.9 FM), and broadcast television (NBC Nightly News in Los Angeles, ABC7’s 7 On Your Side in San Francisco, and KTVU Channel 2 News in Oakland). I’ve covered everything from Obama’s campaign in Northeast Ohio, the International AIDS Conference, Occupy Oakland, Michael Jackson’s passing, and interviewed Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum.

I’ve received awards for my work from the Radio Television Digital News Association, the Sacramento Press Club, and the Asian American Journalists Association.

I’ve studied at the University of Cambridge and in Shanghai. I’m originally from the San Francisco Bay Area.
